Genetic ancestry

From ISOGG Wiki

Other languages:

Genetic ancestry is a genetics concept that describes the "architecture of genome variation between populations".[1] Genetic ancestry tests exploit the findings of population genetics research to provide inferences about someone's genetic heritage and ethnicity. The tests are also sometimes known as genetic heritage tests[2] or DNA ancestry tests. Genetic ancestry testing is generally distinct from the more rigorous discipline of genetic genealogy which combines a genealogical DNA test with genealogical and historical records.[3]
